Faith 7 Game 2008
Posted in NEWS with tags Faith 7 on July 7, 2008 by OBCASHAWNEE – As many expected, Oklahoma prep scoring standouts Rotnei Clarke and Keiton Page put on a show Saturday night in the Annual Faith 7 All Star Shootout at Oklahoma Baptist University.
The high-scoring duo proved just enough to hold off Texas, 121-101, and another future Oklahoma collegiate star who shattered scoring records in the process.
While Clarke and Page established virtually every high school scoring record in Oklahoma, it was future Oklahoma Sooner Willie Warren that stole the show in the Faith 7 extravaganza with a record 41 points for the Texas squad, slashing his way to 14 of 26 shooting from the field and nine of 16 at the charity stripe.
The problem for the Texans was they only had one stud to offset the Oklahoma one-two punch of Clarke and Page.
Oklahoma set the tone early by racing to a 30-17 lead after one stanza before watching the Texans trim that margin to 60-55 at the halftime break. Another 31-17 flurry by the Sooner State to start the second half put the game on ice.
Page set a new Oklahoma Faith 7 scoring record with 37 points, hitting 11 of 19 from the field, including four treys, along with 11 of 13 at the charity stripe.
Clarke wasn’t too shabby either, totaling 29 points as he hit nine of 22 from the field, including four three-pointers, while tossing in seven of eight at the line.
While Page and Clarke were sparking the attack on the perimeter, it was solid contributions inside that made the biggest difference as despite being outsized, the Sooners outrebounded the Texans by a 61-54 margin. Midwest City’s Chuck Sanders and Tulsa Memorial’s Blaise Staab pulled down nine of those apiece while Mark Rutledge contributed eight rebounds and Robert Crawford had seven.
With most of the statistical categories fairly even, it was the three-point shooting of the Okies that made the biggest difference, hitting 11 treys to just five for the visitors.

A huge fourth quarter was the difference as the Red squad of Class 4A, 5A and 6A All Stars outscored their Grey squad counterparts 23-10 in the frame.
Second chance points were critical in the Red comeback as they capitalized on 16 offensive rebounds with a massive 19-4 scoring advantage on putbacks. They also sank 49 percent in the second half from the field on 19 of 39.
The Red also displayed great balance throughout with Westmoore’s Matthew Mobley and Byng’s Nathan Turtle leading the charge with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Austin King of Harrah sparked the early Grey charge with 17 points on eight of 11 shooting from the field.

Class 2A 80, Class 3A 78
The Class 2A All Stars rode an early lead and four players in double figures to a thrilling 80-78 victory.
Offensive rebounds were the key for the Class 2A squad, which pulled down a phenomenal 31 offensive boards, cashing in with 26 second chance points. Despite being at a size disadvantage overall, Tushka’s Tyson Finch and Luther’s Taylor Shook did most of the inside damage, combining for 17 boards, including nine offensively.
Chisholm grad Tyler Simmons canned eight of 13 field goal tries to finish with a team-high 19 points for the Class 2A. Talihina’s David Powell contributed 11 while Shook and Chace Green from Pawnee chipped in 10 apiece.
Mike Soap nearly rallied the 3A stars all the way back, notching a game-high 20 points on nine of 15 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers. The seven-foot Heritage Hall duo of P.J. Roberson and Cort Hoge combined for 27 points inside.

After trailing 35-28 at intermission, the Class A All-Stars exploded for 27 points in the third quarter to rally past the Class B squad.
Sizzling field goal shooting was the story for the A Stars as they connected on 59 percent from the field after the break while the Class B hit only 29 percent on 10 of 35 shootings.
Garber’s Cody Bond led all scorers with 15 points, sinking six of his 10 tries from the field, while adding four rebounds. Howe’s Kyle Tucker and Ripley’s Brett Tilley also hit double figures with 10 points apiece.
The Class B team had sensational balance but no player reached double figures. Eric Garza, Tanner McElhaney, Nick Cash and Jonathan Allen totaled eight each.

Wow! What a State Tournament!
In twenty-five years of going to the state tournament, I’ve never seen
such great crowds, entertaining games as well as outstanding personal
performances. Congratulations to all state champion coaches and teams.
Your hard work and dedication has certainly paid off. Congratulations
also to all the teams and coaches who qualified for the state tournament.
That’s a special accomplishment and one that will be cherished forever.
Success seems to come to those who work hard. Congratulations also to all
the teams and coaches who overachieved this past season and won more games
than expected. Once again, hard work is rewarded. Congratulations to all
the award winners from this past season, especially to Coach of the Year
Eric Savage and Players of the Year Rotnie Clark and Keiton Page. In my
opinion, these two players certainly deserve all the accolades they’ve
received for their efforts, not to mention the attention their quest for
the scoring title brought to Oklahoma basketball. Having said this, I’m
reminded of the saying “the dictionary is the only place where success
comes before work.” I believe the harder you work, the more successful
you will be.
Now plans are being made for next season. Camps, tournaments and summer
leagues are organizing and dreams begin to develop for coaches and another
group of kids. I think dreaming the dream of winning the gold ball gives
coaches as well as players the motivation to do all we do during the
summer months.
Don’t forget about the OBCA All-Star Weekend at OBU this June. The dates
are June 6 and 7. The weekend starts with the Hall of Fame Banquet on
Friday night. If you know one of the inductees, you need to make every
effort to be there for their induction. What an honor this is to be in
the OBCA Hall of Fame! Listening to their speeches is definitely
entertaining. The All-Star games are Saturday afternoon with the Faith 7
game Saturday night. Come and join the fun and be a active member of the
OBCA in Shawnee on All-Star Weekend.
