COACHES, DONT FORGET TO VOTE EACH WEEK IN YOUR CLASS.
GOOD LUCK COACH TO YOU AND YOUR TEAM THIS SEASON
Posted in COACHES CORNER on November 15, 2009 by OBCA
“During the season, your team should be led with exuberance and excitement. You should live the journey. You should live it right. You should live it together. You should live it shared. You should try to make one another better. You should get on one another if somebody’s not doing their part. You should hug one another when they are. You should be disappointed in a loss and exhilarated in a win. It’s all about the journey.” – Coach K, Duke University

Posted in NEWS on October 4, 2009 by OBCAWhat a great time of the year! The weather is turning cooler and the days are nice and warm and the sporting scene is hopping. This is my favorite time of the year, with baseball winding down and the playoffs on the horizon, football at all levels in full swing and the best of all, the beginning of basketball practice with the season coming quickly. I hope everyone had a great summer and were able to enjoy the down time with families and friends and recharge for the upcoming basketball season.
As the season gets underway, take some time to enjoy the journey of the season. Think back to all of the mentors that were a part of your life growing up and were probably the reason that you chose to enter the coaching profession. Pick up the phone and give them a call or drop them a note just to say thanks. I would like to take this time to wish each of you the best of luck on the upcoming season and I hope that you are able to achieve all of the goals that you have set for your team.
The Fall Clinic is approaching quickly. It will be held this year on Thursday October 15 on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee with registration starting at 8:00. We have been able to line up a great agenda of speakers and demonstrators, those speaking will be Doug Schumpert of Anadarko High School and Dewayne Bradley of Midwest City High School. Bringing their teams to demonstrate will be Ron Arthur of Shawnee High School and Larry Johnston of Washington High School. Each of these coaches does a great job and we are very excited to have them.
I would like to take this time to thank the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association for allowing me to serve as your President for the past year. It has been one of the greatest honors of my coaching career. I would like to thank all of the officers and especially Mark Wilson for making this such an enjoyable year. We have a great organization and I would like to encourage all of you to get involved with our organization as it continues to grow. Once again, thank you and I look forward to seeing you at the Fall Clinic in Shawnee.

Another basketball season has come and gone leaving behind an exciting year and many memories. I hope all of you have had a chance to step back and recharge the batteries as we come to the end of the school year and head into the summer months which will be full of camps and basketball activities. Take some time to enjoy this break from school with your families and to prepare for the next year which will be here before we know it.
Congratulations to all of the state tournament qualifiers and the state champions from each class. Once again the tournaments were exciting with overtime games and nail biters, with young student/athletes playing their hearts out on the court. I am truly amazed each year to see the talent level of basketball players and the level of coaching that we have here in Oklahoma. This is a great game made even greater by the coaches and athletes representing our state.
I would like to encourage you to attend the upcoming OBCA all – star games in Shawnee on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University. Coach Tolin always does a great job with these games and it is a chance to watch the outstanding seniors one more time. The date for the games is Saturday June 6. For more information you can check out the OBCA website at obca.us, which has all the rosters and game times.
Be sure to make plans to attend the summer clinic which will be held in Tulsa this year the last week of July. Come down and hear the speakers, see old friends, and talk some basketball. The all – state game will be held on Thursday night at ORU and it will be a last chance to get a look at the outstanding seniors of Oklahoma this year. We will also be having our general business meeting this week and I would encourage all of you to attend and get involved with the OBCA.
I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe summer! Enjoy this time away. Hope to see you all at the OBCA games and the summer clinic.
