I would like to start off by thanking everyone for giving me the opportunity to serve as the President of our great organization. It is a tremendous honor and I look forward to the next year. I hope this note finds everyone doing well on this push to the playoffs! What a hectic time of year! We practice all fall in anticipation of games that seem to take forever to get here. Now in January, it seems we desperately need to practice and all we do is play games!  Even if your team has struggled like mine, there is always the anticipation that we can put it together to make that run to the state tournament. Coaches please don’t forget that you must be a member to nominate your players for any post-season awards. You can join on the website at http://www.okbasketballcoaches.com

The coaches victory award forms and all nomination forms are available on the website along with assistant coach of the year and junior high coach of the year forms. Last but not least, don’t forget to nominate people in your community for the “friend of basketball” in each district. I know there are a lot of people out there who help our programs and it would mean a lot to many of them to be recognized for their support. I hope all of your players stay healthy and most of your shots go in as you start your playoff run! Good luck –  Bryan Jennings

Hope this note finds you healthy and well and having GREAT early season workouts! It is such an awesome time of the year! Everyone is optimistic about the possibility of having a good season because… we haven’t scrimmaged yet and found out how bad we are!! Please make your plans to attend The Fall Clinic at Oklahoma Baptist on October 21st. We will start the day with a presentation from Gary Hendrix of Fort Gibson. Coach Hendrix has one of the most successful and consistent programs in 4A. He will be followed by the OBCA Coach of the Year Terry Long and his talented group from Douglass. With several Division 1 prospects they should have a very impressive workout. After lunch the head man at Bartlesville Tim Bart will speak. Coach Bart is widely respected around the state and does a great job maximizing his talent. Our afternoon demonstrator will be Kris Hall and his Caddo Bruins. The Bruins are one of the favorites to win a championship in class A. Last but certainly not least will be the NAIA national champion Bison led by Coach Doug Tolin going through a practice. It should be a great day of basketball and fellowship! In closing let me say what a great honor it has been for me to have served as President of the OBCA this past year. Thanks to all who made it possible and helped me out along the way. It has been a wonderful experience. See you in Shawnee.

THE JOURNEY BEGINS!!!!

“During the season, your team should be led with exuberance and excitement. You should live the journey. You should live it right. You should live it together. You should live it shared. You should try to make one another better. You should get on one another if somebody’s not doing their part. You should hug one another when they are. You should be disappointed in a loss and exhilarated in a win. It’s all about the journey.” Coach K

“I try to see each new season as a new challenge because I have a new team to work with, new opponents to encounter, and often new ideas and theories to try.” Coach K

GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR TEAM THIS SEASON!!

It’s that time again! Where did our summer go? I hope that your team had a productive summer and really improved. I thought the Coaches Clinic in Tulsa was one of the best we have had in years. I want to offer my thanks and congratulations for a job well done to the speakers and to Jerry Havens and the Oklahoma Coaches Association for bringing them to us. Our High School guys Clyde Barkley from Inola, Kale Simon from Roff, and Dwayne Bradley from Midwest City did a great job with their presentations. Coach Doug Tolin from Oklahoma Baptist was very informative and very impressive. We were also very fortunate to hear Grant McCasland from Midwestern State, Billy Kennedy from Murray state, and Tom Hankins from Oral Roberts. Veteran Burkburnett, Texas high school coach Danny Nix finished the week with an excellent presentation of his pressing and fastbreak system. If you were able to attend any of these I’m sure you left with some new ideas and an enthusiasm to get home and get started! Please start making your plans to attend the fall clinic at Oklahoma Baptist on October 21. We will have 2 high school coaches and 2 demonstrators who I know will do a great job. Hope your school year gets off to a great start and see you at the fall clinic.         Donnie Husband
