It has to be the greatest time of the year for us Gym rats. Good luck to all of you as you get ready to pitch it up. I wish you all the best. I want to extend my thanks to the Thunder for the great Fall Clinic. We owe a big thanks to Mark Wilson for getting the ball rolling 2 years ago. We are very blessed to have the clinic we have now and that would not have happened without Mark and the Thunder!

What a great message for us all! Basketball!!! What a great game! What a great opportunity to be a mentor to young people. To work together with your team and compete in such an exciting arena is awesome! The game parallels life in many ways. There is so much to learn and gain from the opportunity to play and coach the game.
As coaches, we touch many lives. We have such a great ministry to young people as well as others. Besides our players, we are observed by many people. Always know that the young minds that you come in contact with are impressionable and you will leave your mark forever with them. It’s important to know the “message” and “impression” you want to leave with your players. Of course we want these young men to be great players, but more importantly I tell our players we want them to be outstanding men, outstanding husbands, outstanding fathers and outstanding citizens. This is our expectation for them.
There are great coaches out there! Region 3 is certainly blessed with those outstanding types of men and women. Many of you have left a good message and impression with me. I thank you for the people you are and the good that you’ve given and shown me.
Practice is starting already. Good luck this year!

Posted in COACHES CORNER, NEWS on October 12, 2013 by OBCAFirst off, I’d like to thank David Day for serving OBCA for the last year as our President under his direction among others including the OKC Thunder, the OBCA continues to grow. I’d also like to thank Tundrell Durham for taking over the Presidency and look forward to the next year. Also Mark Wilson for all the work he does behind the scene every year. Lastly I’d to thank the members of Region 2 for letting me serve them for the next 2 years, I truly look forward to the challenge.
As the season grows closer to tipping off, I grow more excited everyday. I go to bed thinking about basketball and I wake up thinking about basketball. I must also find what motivates me. Was it something that took place last year? Was it something that I experienced over the Summer? Is it something that didn’t happen, that I so badly wanted to? Find those things that keeps you motivated to win games, find those things that keep you being a positive influence on the boys that you coach, that helps them grown from adolescence to adulthood.
Here are few things that I find true about most successful coaches on and off the court.
Great coaches:
1) Care about players
2) Earn players respect
3) Adapt system to fit players
4) Criticize w/o discouraging
5) Teach the game!
Once again, thank you for letting me serve the OBCA. If there is anything I can do to help anyone, I will. Feel free to contact me anytime.

Coach Tondrell Durham: McGuinness HS
First of all, I would like to thank the membership of the OBCA for allowing me the opportunity to become president. In addition, I would like to thank David Day for his work and time as the out-going OBCA president. October 1st is around the corner and we all have basketball things going through our basketball minds. I always create a basketball check-list for myself that I try to use going into October 1st.
1. What do I want to accomplish on October 1st?
2. Do I have enough players in the gym to accomplish those things?
3. What drills are important for the first day of practice?
4. Freshman: Non-football players: How much do I give them?
5. Conditioning: What’s enough for the 1st day of practice?
Good luck this season to all the members of the OBCA. If you know of a coach that is not an OBCA member, please speak with that individual because the
OBCA deserves to have every head coach and assistant included in its membership.
Thank You Thunder Organization
Posted in Uncategorized on September 23, 2013 by OBCAThanks to the OKC Thunder for their hospitality and resources in hosting the OBCA Fall Clinic. This is the third year of this partnership with our organization and the event continues to improve each and every year. We are able to have a First Class event due to the cooperation of a First Class organization.
Special thanks to Kelly McKuen and Amy Oare from the Thunder Marketing Department. They are both invaluable to our organization in regards to the Fall Clinic. Their attention to detail and professionalism are remarkable. The OBCA is privileged to be able to work with them in the planning of the Fall Clinic.
